STIHL MS 180 Petrol Chainsaw

We had a chat with Matt, a product trainer at STIHL NZ responsible for educating store staff and employees about our products, to hear about his favorite Chainsaw: the STIHL MS 180 Petrol Chainsaw. Here's what he had to say about this fan favorite STIHL MS 180 Petrol Chainsaw...

BUDGET FRIENDLY CHAINSAW

Matt: What I like about the MS 180 is that it is an affordable entry-level option that fits well within many people's budgets, yet it is powerful and can be used for a multitude of jobs such as pruning trees, cutting firewood, and general property maintenance. I've used it for a range of jobs around my property. In addition, the MS 180 is lightweight and compact making it easy to handle and transport.

The MS 180 is designed as an entry-level Chainsaw, making it an ideal choice for homeowners, DIY-ers, and anyone in need of a reliable and durable tool at a great price. Althought it is a cost-effective option it still has some of the same features as a STIHL professional Chainsaws. With its simplified starting system, the MS 180 is very easy to start, making it perfect for beginners who may not have much experience with Chainsaws.

ONE CHAINSAW FOR A RANGE OF JOBS

Matt: I've used the MS 180 for several landscaping projects such as building steps and cutting framework. It's a very easy saw to use, it's powerful for it's size and can handle a variety of tasks. There's one crucial factor to keep in mind when using a Chainsaw for buiding or landscaping, that's to maintain a sharp chain and avoid cutting into dirt or other tough materials. By using a sharp chain, you'll achieve clean and straight cuts every time. So, remember, a sharp chain is your ticket to a job well done!

POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO

Matt: The power to weight ratio refers to the power that the Chainsaw is putting out in relation to its weight. The MS 180 is a very powerful saw with an awesome power to weight ratio - it's incredibly well balanced. This makes it really easy to handle and use for a variety of tasks.

The MS 180 boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio for an entry-level chainsaw. Despite being compact and lightweight, it delivers a high power output and is easy to handle and maneuver during use. When choosing a Chainsaw, the power-to-weight ratio is a crucial factor to consider, as it impacts the overall performance, efficiency, and ease of use of the saw.

If you're interested, you can find the power to weight ratio of any chainsaw by dividing the saw's power by weight (P÷W= power to weight ratio).

ANTI-VIBRATION SYSTEM

Matt: The Anti-Vibration System or AVS system on the MS 180 is impressive, it reduces saw vibrations during use, minimizing the impact on the user. This is important because excessive vibration can cause stress on the body and make using the saw uncomfortable or even painful over time.

The Anti-Vibration System (AVS) is crafted to reduce operator fatigue and improve cutting comfort. The AVS system employs specially designed buffers and springs that help to diminish vibration levels by isolating the vibrations from the engine and cutting attachment, and therefore reducing the vibrations transmitted to the handles. This provides a smoother cutting experience, reduces operator fatigue, and prevents excessive strain on the hands, arms, and shoulders.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Matt: The MS 180 is a user-friendly machine that operates smoothly and effortlessly. It provides a pleasant and hassle-free experience making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced users alike.... let the saw do the work!
